DETAILS
FOR BEGINNERS
What to
bring
Clothing
and shoes suitable for running or walking along paths, these could be muddy in
places.
A watch
would be helpful to keep track of time since courses will close at
Compass is
not essential but could be helpful.
How to
register and start on the course
At registration
you will need to complete a form* to hire (free of charge) a electronic dibber
and pay the entry fee. Go to the start official and they will start you as soon
as they can at a suitable start time. They will provide any last minute
information, advice or help if required. They will provide you with a map
already marked with the course and allow you a minute to look at the course and
then start by punching the start box with the electronic dibber.
Courses
1.0 km -
Very easy
Start and finish are very close
together, please download after you have completed the course.
If you enjoyed the course and
found it too easy, you can try the 2.5km at no extra charge but only if
registration hasn’t closed at
2.5 and
5.0km - Easy
The 5.0 km is 2 x 2.5km course
and the 1st 2.5 km is common to the 2.5 and the 5.0 km course.
The 1st 2.5km
finishes at control 101 and at this point you can decide whether to finish here
or to continue on to complete the
5.0km..
2.5km course - After the 2.5km
finish at control 101 and then go to the finish team and download your dibber
to the computer.
5.0km course - turn the map over
and continue with the 2nd 2.5km course - do not go to the finish or
download between the two parts. You must visit the controls in the right
order.
Map memory
- see details below for experienced orienteers.
Finish
and download
It is vital
that you download your time and return your hired dibber. The download acts as
a check on who is still out on the area so even if you retire you must go to
download.
*Please
take great care of the electronic dibbers since we will have to charge you for
any losses.
