It rapidly gets dark around 4:20 as I found out on Monday, when I had to abandon putting out some controls. Also thank you all for coming, without your support it would not be worthwhile. Right now, Tues 9:45pm, it's been a long day - in the forest at 8:00am, I wonder why I ever volunteered to put on the event. As anyone who has done these things before will realise, orienteering is an extremely labour intensive activity - I reckon this small event has taken 4 / 5 man-days to stage. It would be soul destroying if it was not for your support. Not sure what to make of the "snooker" approach. Clearly some of you really enjoyed it - not surprisingly they were the ones who did well. Others I suspect kept their own council! Although the total area of the map is not too small, the area is split into two by a very steep (eastern slope) of the central N/S ridge. This results in splitting the map into two rather small areas. It then becomes difficult to put on a standard 1-hour score event which will challenge the younger, fitter orienteers. This "snooker" approach did allow this. However, on reflection I should have given a little more consideration to the location of some of the controls "revealed" at the colour controls. In particular at the Pink control they should not all have been so distant. Graham Tough
